The Gaia converter keeper HUGD-300 offers an advanced solution to address the issue of maintaining the electronic system's normal operation during a 50ms, 200ms or longer power loss on the input bus. The HUGD-300 module provides an alternative solution by charging the retention capacitor with a high voltage (which can be set by the user between 31V and 70V) while limiting the input current to reduce the required capacitance.
The HUGD-300 is connected between the power supply and the DC/DC module. Essentially, when the HUGD-300 supplies power to the DC/DC converter, it charges the external capacitor to the defined voltage. If the power supply fails, the HUGD-300 generates a signal, and the converter is powered by the external capacitor. The HUGD-300 can be used with DC/DC converters with input voltages ranging from 16-80V or 9-45V, as the "power failure voltage" can be externally adjusted by the user within the range of 8V to 20V.
The HUGD-300 also incorporates low-loss reverse polarity protection.
Gaia's HUGD-300 high-reliability retention module is designed for higher operating temperatures ranging from -40 to +105°C (optional -55°C), and is suitable for typical military and airborne applications:
